Rio de Paz organizes event to raise awareness to Brazil’s violent crime problems that occurred more than a decade ago.

The 4,000 red balloons on this beach represent the number of firearm-related deaths projected to occur in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the second half of this year. Rio de Paz (“Peace Rio”) compiled the number based on last year’s grim statistics, then organized this event in June on the city’s Copacabana Beach to raise awareness about the violent crime problem that’s plagued the country for more than a decade.
