Rio de Paz organizes event to raise awareness to Brazil’s violent crime problems that occurred more than a decade ago.

The 4,000 red balloons on this beach represent the number of firearm-related deaths projected to occur in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during the second half of this year. Rio de Paz (“Peace Rio”) compiled the ­number based on last year’s grim statistics, then ­organized this event in June on the city’s Copacabana Beach to raise awareness about the violent crime problem that’s plagued the country for more than a decade.
