Northeast urged to use renewables

The disaster-hit northeast should take advantage of abundant renewable energy sources such as wind power and solar energy for its reconstruction, the government says in its annual environment white paper. The area has particularly strong potential for wind power generation, estimated at up to 83 billion kwh, along with a fairly even availability of sunlight and rich geothermal energy sources, says the report, which was released Tuesday.
