Ahead of the G-8 summit, President Obama will unveil a new public-private partnership with DuPont, Monsanto, and Cargill, and almost 20 companies from Africa, to help farmers build local markets and fight hunger. Read the full story

I’m not so sure that this is good news. If we objectively look at the companies that are in the business of GMOs, the products they market, including pesticides and herbicides, there should be some large warning flags popping up. Financing will probably be taken care of though the World bank and the Federal Reserve, and the U.S. tax payer will ultimately be on the hook for that.
This is a very frightening development and I hope our president will wake up before he is supposed to unveil the partnership.
I agree with the previous commenter. The possible short-term benefit for African farmers will not outweigh the the long-term detriment to the environment which too soon will impede agricultural progress. And obviously, those mega-corportions which are already causing havoc in our country will reap ever larger profits which is their primary objective.
I totally agree with Johnny and Karen. Why is our government holding hands with monoculture corporations? Thousands of farmers in India are committing suicide over losing their farms because of the contracts they made with those corporations. There is still not enough nonbiased research on GMO’s and the long term effects on our health because the FDA is made up of former Monsanto employees. The list of why this is wrong on so many levels goes on and on…follow the money.
I agree with all of the above comments. Monsanto (GMO’s) is banned in the United Kingdom and Australia. They lobby and pay off some of our government officials to prevent labeling here in the United States. GMO’s are slowly killing our animals that are force fed corn. It has been stated that 87% of what is in our supermarkets contain some degree of GMO’s. The public is just now becoming aware and fighting back. We made them rich, we can use our dollars to make them poor, boycott any products we are not sure of.
